Objective: Sustainability has become one of the most prominent concepts on a global scale in recent years. Sustainable consumption stands out as an important part of individual and social behaviors aimed at minimizing environmental impacts and using resources more efficiently. Although the literature on sustainable consumption behaviors has expanded, there is a lack of comprehensive analysis of the general structure of studies in this field, publication trends, and international collaborations. The aim of this study is to systematically reveal the development of the literature on the concept of sustainable consumption over the years and its current state. Materials and Methods: In this study, the scientific literature on sustainable consumption was examined using 1,413 international publications published between 1980 and July 1, 2025, from the Web of Science (WoS) database. Using the R programming language and the Bibliometrix package program, the analysis examined the most cited articles, inter-author collaborations, and social structure. Findings: During the period under review, the most prolific author in the field of sustainable consumption was THOGERSEN, J., while the most cited work was White (2019)'s article titled “How to SHIFT Consumer Behaviors to be More Sustainable: A Literature Review and Guiding Framework.” In addition, the International Journal of Consumer Studies stood out as the journal with the most publications on sustainable consumption. In the study, the term sustainable consumption was identified as the concept with the most interaction in the literature, while the concepts of Management and Model had high centrality values and were in direct interaction with sustainable consumption behaviors. The United States is the country that has contributed the most to the field with 132 publications, while the Warsaw School of Economics (Poland) is the institution with the most publications. Conclusion: This study examined the international literature on sustainable consumption through bibliometric analysis, revealing publication trends, key conceptual focuses, collaboration networks, and research gaps in the field. In doing so, it contributed to the existing body of knowledge and provided a guiding framework for future research.
